Incident

Antigua flagged, 4015 GRT cargo ship Olivia had an accident by running aground 50 meters away from the shore as a result of breaking of her ropes due to a gale while she was in Madenci Shipyard for maintenance. Bottom of the ship was damaged, her holds were filled with water, and she generated a risk for marine and environmental pollution due to the fuel on the ship. The salvage operation of the vessel was given to our company by the signed agreement.

Scope of Works

After signing the wreck removal agreement, following operations were carried out under the supervision of the officers of Directorate General of Customs:

§     .Oil barriers were laid around the ship before beginning the operations and oil absorbents were kept ready against the leak risk during the operations.

§     .Before starting refloating operations, approximately 10 m3 oil contaminated with water and bilge water onboard were transferred into our land tankers in order to eliminate the environmental pollution risk and delivered to ERDEMİR for disposal.

§     .32 tons fuel oil, 17 tons diesel oil, and 4150 kg lubricating oil were discharged from the vessel and delivered to TÜPRAŞ.

§     .After discharging seawater by pumping from the holds, the vessel was refloated and then, towed the Karadeniz Ereğli Port.

§     .Following the inspection divings, temporary repairs were done. Then, the ship was towed to Tuzla and consigned to the shipowner.

Tugboat Pehlivan-2 ve tugboat Pegasus-3 were used in the operations.
